[Scene, Monica and Rachel's, Monica and Ross are pouring wine for their parents.]

Mrs. Geller: Oh, Martha Ludwin's daughter is gonna call you. (Tastes a snack) Mmm! What's that curry taste?

          오, 마르샤 루윈스의 딸이 너에게 전화 활거야.   (스낵 맛을 본다) 음~! 이건 어떤 커리 맛이야?

Monica: Curry.

           커리맛이요.

Mrs. Geller: Mmmm!

                으음~!

Ross: I- I think they're great! I, I really do.

        제 생각에는 아주 훌륭한거같아요! 정말로요.

Mr. Geller: (To Ross) Do you remember the Ludwins? The big one had a thing for you, didn't she?

               (로스에게) 루윈스의 딸들 기억나? 큰 애가 너를 좋아했었잖아, 그렇지 않아? 

Mrs. Geller: They all had a thing for him.

                걔들 다 로스 좋아했었죠.

Ross: Aw, Mom...

         에이, 엄마..

Monica: I'm sorry, why is this girl going to call me? 

           미안한대, 그 애가 왜 저한테 전화한다고요?

Mrs. Geller: Oh, she just graduated, and she wants to be something in cooking, or food, or.... I don't know. Anyway, I told her you had a restaurant-

                오, 그 애가 졸업을 했는데, 요리하는 거나, 음식쪽으로 무언가 되기를 원하고 있어...  정확히는 모르겠어. 어쨋든, 니가 지금 레스토랑을 가지고 있다고 말했거든-

Monica: No Mom, I don't have a restaurant, I work in a restaurant.

           아니에요 엄마, 나는 레스토랑 없어요, 나는 레스토랑에서 일할 뿐이죠.

Mrs. Geller: Well, they don't have to know that... (She starts to fluff the same pillow Monica fluffed multiple times earlier.)

  음, 그들이 굳이 자세히 알 필요는 없잖아. (엄마는 모니카가 몇번이나 정리한 베개를 다시 털기 시작했다)

Monica: Ross, could you come and help me with the spaghetti, please?

           로스, 여기 와서 스파게티 만드는 거 쫌 도와줄래?

Ross: Yeah. (They go to the kitchen.)

        알겠어. (주방으로 향한다.)

Mrs. Geller: Oh, we're having spaghetti! That's.... easy.

                 오, 우리 스파게티 먹는구나! 그거 참.... 쉽지.

Monica: Actually, we were going to have lasagna.

            사실은, 우리 라자냐 먹으려고 했어요.

Mr. Geller: Oh, I love lasagna!

              오, 라자냐 아주 좋지!

Monica: Well, we're not having it.

            음, 우리 지금 라자냐 없어요.

Mrs. Geller: Then, why did you bring it up? You know how he latches on...

                그러면, 왜 그 이야기를 꺼냈니? 니 아빠가 얼마나 좋아하는지 알면서...

Monica: I know this is going to sound unbelievably selfish, but, were you planning on bringing up the whole baby/lesbian thing? Because I think it might take some of the heat off me.

            이게 정말 이기적으로 들릴 수도 있지만, 애기랑 레x비언에 관한 이야기 언제 꺼낼꺼야?  그래야 지금 화난 상태를 조금 식힐 수 있을 거 같애.

           

 

[Time Lapse, everyone is now eating.]

Mrs. Geller: What that Rachel did to her life.... We ran into her parents at the club, they were not playing very well.

               도대체 레이첼이 무슨 짓을 한거야.... 우리는 그녀의 부모를 클럽에서 만났는데, 그들은 별로 안 좋아 보였어.

Mr. Geller: I'm not gonna tell you what they spent on that wedding... but forty thousand dollars is a lot of money!

             나는 그들이 결혼식에 쓴 비용에 대해서 말하지 않을거야... 하지만, 4만 달러는 꽤 큰 금액이지!

Mrs. Geller: Well, at least she had the chance to leave a man at the altar...

               그래도, 레이첼은 최소한 남자를 결혼식장에 놔두기로 했죠...

Monica: What's that supposed to mean?

           무슨 뜻으로 말하는 거에요?

Mrs. Geller: Nothing! It's an expression.

                아무뜻없어! 그냥 한 말이야.

Monica: No it's not.

           그런거 아니잖아요.

Mr. Geller: Don't listen to your mother. You're independent, and you always have been! Even when you were a kid... and you were chubby, and you had no friends, you were just fine! And you would read alone in your room, and your puzzles...

            니 엄마말 듣지마. 너는 독립적이야, 항상 그래왔지! 심지어 니가 어릴때 조차도...  그리고 니가 뚱뚱했고, 친구가 없었을 때도, 저는 괜찮았었어! 그리고 너는 방에서 책을 혼자 읽었었고, 그리고 퍼즐도...

[Time Lapse.]

Mr. Geller: Look, there are people like Ross who need to shoot for the stars, with his museum, and his papers getting published. Other people are satisfied with staying where they are- I'm telling you, these are the people who never get cancer. They're happy with what they have. They're basically content like ... cows

             봐봐, 로스 같이 목표가 높은 사람들이 있단다, 로스의 박물관, 로스의 논문들까지. 또 다른 부류의 사람들은 그들의 현재에 만족을 하지- 나는 말이야, 이런 사람들은 결코 암에 걸리지 않는다고 봐. 그들은 현재 가진거에 행복해 하거든. 그들은 마치 ... 젖소같이말이야

       (이때 아빠가 모니카를 가르치면서 말했어요)

Ross: Cows...dad?

        젖소요? 아빠?

       (그래서 로스가 딸한테 그런 말을 하냐는 듯이 되묻어요)

Mr. Geller: She knows, how much I love cows.

            모니카도 안다, 내가 얼마나 젖소를 좋아하는지.

[Time Lapse.]

Mr. Geller: ...And I read about these women trying to have it all, and I thank God 'Our Little Harmonica' doesn't seem to have that problem. I'm telling you, sweetheart, You're gonna be fine.

              ...그리고 내가 모든 걸 다 가지고 싶어하는 여자들에 관한 책을 읽었는데, 나는 '우리의 하모니카'가 이런 문제들이 없는 거에 대해서 너무 감사하게 생각해. 모니카야 너는 괜찮을 거야.

       (모니카는 발전하지 않고, 현재에 만족하는 사람이라고 생각하는 아빠의 고정관념...)

Monica: (trying desperately to change the subject) So, Ross, what's going on with you? Any stories? (Digs her elbow into his hand.) No news, no little anecdotes to share with the folks?

            (짜증이난 상태로 주제를 바꾸기 시도한다) 그래서, 로스, 너는 요새 어때? 아무 이야기 없어? (로스의 손을 팔꿈치로 누르면서) 부모님과 나눌 아무 뉴스나, 아무 사소한 이야기들 없어? 

Ross: (pulls his hand away) Okay! Okay. (To his parents) Look, I, uh- I realise you guys have been wondering what exactly happened between Carol and me, and, so, well, here's the deal. Carol's a lesbian. She's living with a woman named Susan. She's pregnant with my child, and she and Susan are going to raise the baby.

        (손을 빼면서) 좋아! 좋아. (부모님을 보고) 사실은요, 음- 어머니 아버지가 캐롤과 저 사이에 정확히 어떤 일이 있었는지 궁금해 하는거 알고 있어요. 그래서, 음, 말해드릴게요. 캐롤은 레x비언 이고요. 그녀는 지금 수잔이라는 여자와 살고 있고요. 그녀는 지금 나의 아기를 임신했어요. 그리고 그녀와 수잔은 이 아이를 키우려고 해요.

(Stunned silence ensues.)

Mrs. Geller: (To Monica) And you knew about this?!

              (모니카에게) 너 알고 있었어?!
