꾸준히 무언가를 하는 것은 정말 힘든 일이죠

하지만 계속 힘내서 하고, 어느순간 발전된 본인의 모습을 보는 거 만큼

기분 좋은 일이 없을 거에요!!

[Scene: Monica's Apartment, Rachel is making coffee for Joey and Chandler.]

Rachel: Isn't this amazing? I mean, I have never made coffee before in my entire life.

        놀랍지 않니? 음, 나는 태어나서 단 한번도 커피를 만들어 본적이 없어.

Chandler: That is amazing.

             그거 참 놀랍네

Joey: Congratulations.

         축하해

Rachel: Y'know, I figure if I can make coffee, there isn't anything I can't do.

          있잖아,  나는 내가 커피를 만들 수 있으면, 내가 못할 건 아무것도 없다고 생각해

Chandler: No, I think it's If I can invade Poland, there isn't anything I can't do.

              만약에 내가 폴란드를 침략한다면, 내가 못할 것은 아무것도 없어

           (이건 챈들러가 겨우 커피만드는거 가지고, 그렇게 생각하는 레이첼을 비꼬는 거에요!)

Joey: Listen, while you're on a roll, if you feel like you gotta make like a Western omelet or something... (Joey and Chandler taste the coffee, grimace, and pour it into a plant pot.) Although actually I'm really not that hungry...

        음, 시작했다고 마음먹은 김에, 웨스턴 오믈렛이나 다른 것들을 한번 만들어 보는게 어때?

(커피 맛을 본 후) 아니 근데, 나는 별로 배가 고프지 않네...

Monica: (entering, to herself) Oh good, Lenny and Squiggy are here.

           오 이런, Lenny 와 Squiggy 가 여기 있네.

           (Lenny, Squiggy 는 코미디 프로에 나오는 개그 콤비입니다)

All: Morning. Good morning.

      좋은 아침

Paul: (entering from Monica's room) Morning.

        안녕

Joey: Morning, Paul.

        안녕, 폴

Rachel: Hello, Paul.

           헤이, 폴

Chandler: Hi, Paul, is it?

              하이, 폴, (이름) 폴 맞지?

(Monica and Paul walk to the door and talk in a low voice so the others can't hear.  The others move Monica's table closer to the door so that they can.)

Paul: Thank you!  Thank you so much!

          고마워요!  정말 너무 고마워요!

Monica: Stop!

          아이 그만해!

Paul: No, I'm telling you last night was like umm, all my birthdays, both graduations, plus the barn raising scene in Witness.

      아니야, 나는 정말 어제 밤은 말이야, 나의 모든 생일, 모든 졸업식, 그리고 Witness라는 영화의 헛간 장면 같았어.

        (Witness 라는 영화에 헛간장면이 아마도 약간 사랑을 나누는 장면이 있다고 들었어요)

Monica: We'll talk later.

            다음에 이야기해요.

Paul: Yeah. (They kiss) Thank you. (Exits)

        오케이. 고마워!

Joey: That wasn't a real date?! What the hell do you do on a real date?

         저게 진짜 데이트가 아니라고?   진짜 데이트에 도대체 무엇을 하는거야?

Monica: Shut up, and put my table back.

            조용해, 그리고 테이블이나 원래대로 해놔

All: Okayyy! (They do so.)

      오케이!

Chandler: All right, kids, I gotta get to work. If I don't input those numbers,... it doesn't make much of a difference...

              좋아, 친구들, 나는 일하러 가야해. 만약에 내가 숫자를 입력하지 않는다면....  사실 아무런 큰 차이는 없어...

(챈들러가 하는 일이 컴퓨터로 숫자들을 입력하는 일인데, 열심히 하지 않고, 관심이 없다는 걸 의미해요!)

Rachel: So, like, you guys all have jobs?

         그러면, 음, 너희들 모두 다 직업이 있어?

Monica: Yeah, we all have jobs. See, that's how we buy stuff.

            그렇지, 우리모두 직업이 있어. 봐봐, 그게 우리가 물건들을 사는 방법이지.

Joey: Yeah, I'm an actor.

        맞어, 나는 배우야

Rachel: Wow! Would I have seen you in anything?

          와우! 내가 너를 본적이 있을까?

Joey: I doubt it. Mostly regional work.

        아마도 없을거야. 대부분 지역방송일을 하거든

Monica: Oh wait, wait, unless you happened to catch the Wee one's production of Pinocchio, at the little theater in the park.

            아니 기달려봐, 아이들을 위한 피노키오 공연이 작은 공원의 극장에서 다시한다면, 볼 수도 있지.

       (조이가 대배우라는 느낌보단, 작은 역할을 하는 배우라는 것을 말해줘요 ㅎㅎ)

Joey: Look, it was a job all right?

        흥, 그것도 배우일이거든?

Chandler: 'Look, Geppetto, I'm a real live boy.'

             봐봐, 제페로, 나 진짜 살아있어.

         (제페로는 영화 피노키오에 나오는 인물이에요)

Joey: I will not take this abuse. (Walks to the door and opens it to leave.)

        나는 이 놀림을 받아들이지 않을거야

Chandler: You're right, I'm sorry. (Burst into song and dances out of the door.) "Once I was a wooden boy, a little wooden boy..."

              니가 맞아, 미안해.         "나는 원래 나무소년이었어, 작은 나무 소년..."

Joey: You should both know, that he's a dead man.  Oh, Chandler? (Starts after Chandler.)

        너희들은 모두 알아야해, 그는 죽은 목숨이야.   응, 챈들러?

Monica: So how you doing today? Did you sleep okay? Talk to Barry? I can't stop smiling.

           음 너 오늘 어땠어? 잘 잤니? 배리한테 얘기했어? 미소를 없앨 수가 없네 ㅎㅎ.

Rachel: I can see that. You look like you slept with a hanger in your mouth.

           그래 보이네.  너 잘 때 귀에 입을 걸고 잔 거처럼 보이네

           (폴과 아주 즐거운 시간을 보냈다는 것을 보여주는 거죠 ㅎ..)

Monica: I know, he's just so, so... You remember you and Tony DeMarco?

            나도 알아, 그는 마치, 음...  너와 토니드말코 관계 기억나?

Rachel: Oh, yeah.

           오, 당연하지

Monica: Well, it's like that. With feelings.

            음, 그것과 비슷해. 감정들도 포함해서

          (레이첼과 토니드말코는 육체적인 것만 중시했었나봐요..)

Rachel: Oh wow. Are you in trouble.

            오 와우. 제대로 빠졌네

Monica: Big time!

            그러게!

Rachel: Want a wedding dress?   Hardly used.

           웨딩드레스 필요하니?      나는 쓸일이 없을 거 같애.

Monica: I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves here. Okay. Okay. I am just going to get up, go to work and not think about him all day. Or else I'm just gonna get up and go to work.

          내 생각에 우리 너무 앞서가고 있는거 같애.  좋아. 이제 나는 일어서서, 일을 갈꺼고, 하루종일 그 남자 생각은 하지 않을래. 아니면 그냥 일어나서 일을 가지머.

Rachel: Oh, look, wish me luck!

           오, 맞아, 행운을 빌어줘!

Monica: What for?

            무엇에 대해서?

Rachel: I'm gonna go get one of those (Thinks) job things.

            나 일 구하는거 해보려고.

(Monica exits.)

[Scene: Iridium, Monica is working as Frannie enters.]

Frannie: Hey, Monica!

            안녕, 모니카!

Monica: Hey Frannie, welcome back! How was Florida?

            안녕 프레니, 돌아온거 환영해! 플로리다는 어땠어?

Frannie: You had sex, didn't you?

            너 남자랑 잠자리 가졌구나, 맞지?

Monica: How do you do that?

            어떻게 알았어?

Frannie: Oh, I hate you, I'm pushing my Aunt Roz through Parrot Jungle and you're having sex!  So? Who?

         허참, 나 니가 싫어진다, 나는 숙모 로즈의 휠체어를 밀면서 패럿정글을 다녔는데, 너는 잠자리를 가지다니! 그래서 누구야? 

Monica: You know Paul?

             폴 알아?

Frannie: Paul the Wine Guy? Oh yeah, I know Paul.

           와인가이 폴?  당연하지, 폴 알지

Monica: You mean you know Paul like I know Paul?

           니가 아는 폴이 내가 아는 폴이야?

Frannie: Are you kidding? I take credit for Paul. Y'know before me, there was no snap in his turtle for two years.

           장난해? 나는 폴한테 상받아야해. 나 만나기전에, 그의 거북이는 2년 동안 나온 적이 없어.

          (여기서 거북이는 남자의 그것을 상징하고, 나온적이 없단 말은 무슨 말인지 아시죠)

[Scene: Central Perk, everyone but Rachel is there.]

Joey: (sitting on the arm of the couch)Of course it was a line!

           당연히 작업멘트지!

Monica: Why?! Why? Why, why would anybody do something like that?

            왜?! 왜? 왜, 왜 그런짓을 하는거야? 

           (폴한테 속은 모니카 아주 열받았어요)

Ross: I assume we're looking for an answer more sophisticated than 'to get you into bed'.

 내 생각에 우리가 좀더 교양있는 대답을 찾기를 바라는 것 같은데 '너를 침대로 끌어들이기 위해서야' 말고

Monica: I hate men!  I hate men!

           나는 남자들이 싫어! 정말 싫어!

Phoebe: Oh no, don't hate, you don't want to put that out into the universe.

             오 그러면 안돼, 너 그런 감정들을 우주로 보내는 걸 원하지 않잖아.

     (저도 이게 먼말이지 잘 모르겠네요. 자연의 섭리를 벗어난다는 의미같기도하고 알면 댓글달아주세요)

Monica: Is it me? Is it like I have some sort of beacon that only dogs and men with severe emotional problems can hear?

   왜 나야? 내가 신호 같은 것을 가고 있나? 심각한 감정적 문제를 가진 개들과 남자들의 소리를 듣는? 

Phoebe: All right, c'mere, gimme your feet. (She starts massaging them.)

            괜찮아, 일로 와바, 발 좀 줘봐

Monica: I just thought he was nice, y'know?

            나는 그냥 그가 너무 좋았었어, 무슨 말인지 알지?

Joey: (bursts out laughing again) I can't believe you didn't know it was a line!

         나는 니가 작업멘트인걸 못알아 먹은게 믿을 수 없다!

(Monica pushes him off of the sofa as Rachel enters with a shopping bag.)

Rachel: Guess what?

           무슨일이게?

Ross: You got a job?

         일 구했어?

Rachel: Are you kidding? I'm trained for nothing! I was laughed out of twelve interviews today.

           장난해? 나는 할 주 아는게 없어! 나는 오늘 12개의 인터뷰에서 조롱거리만 됐었어

Chandler: And yet you're surprisingly upbeat.

             그런데 너 상당히 업됐네?

Rachel: You would be too if you found John and David boots on sale, fifty percent off!

           너도 아마 그럴껄? 니가 존앤데이빗 부츠를 50퍼센트나 할인 받았다면!

Chandler: Oh, how well you know me...

              오 정말, 너는 나를 아주 잘 아는구나...

Rachel: They're my new 'I don't need a job, I don't need my parents, I've got great boots' boots!

            이 부츠는 새거고 '나는 직업이 필요없고 부모님도 필요없고, 이 멋진 부츠만 있으면 되!

Monica: How'd you pay for them?

             어떻게 부츠값을 지불했어?

Rachel: Uh, credit card.

           어... 신용카드로

Monica: And who pays for that?

           누가 그 신용카드 돈 내주니?

Rachel: Um... my... father.

            음....내 아빠가...

 

오늘 Part8은 여기까지입니다! 드디어 다음 Part9이 마지막 이야기게 되겠네요 ㅎㅎ
